Achievement Testing
Similar to academic testing, achievement testing tells you the grade-level of your child in all academic areas (e.g., reading, mathematics, writing, oral language). During testing, I pay attention to both the answers and the approach your child uses to find them. That way I am able to provide specific recommendations that fit with your child’s learning style. I also use an alternate version of the test from what is typically used in schools, so your child can always get re-tested to see how he/she is improving! This testing is available for children 2 years and older as well as for adults.
Cognitive Testing
Similar to an IQ test, cognitive testing measures intelligence in different areas (e.g., verbal, visual-spatial, problem solving, memory). Results of cognitive testing can help families understand why a child is excelling or struggling in certain academic areas. Adding this testing can help identify giftedness and/or diagnose specific learning disabilities with impairment in reading, mathematics, or written expression. ADHD testing can also be added to determine diagnosis and impacts on school, home, or job functioning. This testing is available for children 6 years and older as well as for adults.
Neurodevelopmental Testing
Autism testing should always rely on a thorough developmental history and pay attention to all diagnostic criteria. However, some frequently used tests can misdiagnosis children that work hard to mask their symptoms. I use the appropriate test for your child’s functioning level and consider their behavior in multiple settings through parent-reports, school observations, and/or teacher interviews.
Other available services include:
Additional feedback sessions (e.g., a developmentally appropriate feedback session for the child, a separate feedback session for another family member).
Consultation with professionals to explain results and recommendations (e.g., teachers, tutors).
Participation in school meetings (e.g., IEP meetings) to advocate for your child.
Additional testing (e.g., depression, anxiety, OCD, and other mental health disorders) available upon request.
Testing agencies (e.g., SAT, ACT, LSAT) often require more comprehensive testing to prove eligibility for testing accommodations . I can provide this type of testing.
