Cognitive, Achievement, and Behavioral Testing

Assessments For…

ADHD

Do you or your child get easily distracted, have a hard time getting started on non-preferred tasks, or lose things easily? My comprehensive assessment approach can test for ADHD while ruling out other explanations.

Giftedness

Most schools in California will not offer IQ testing. I offer testing that measures IQ and provides information about cognitive strengths and weaknesses. I also assess children and adults who are “Twice Exceptional” which means they are gifted in addition to having a disability.

Autism

High functioning autism is harder to diagnose, especially in girls whose symptoms present differently. When testing for autism, I consider reasons for difficulties (e.g., social, behavioral) that can shed light on the true problem and how to support.

Specific Learning Disabilities (Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia)

There are many types of learning disorders with impairment in reading, writing, and mathematics. My testing approach moves beyond grade-level delays to determine the reason for learning difficulties. This supports specific recommendations to improve learning.

Other Mental Health Diagnoses

When assessing for learning differences, behavior problems, and other disabilities, I always consider how mental health may be affecting my clients. I assess for depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and other diagnoses and help clients understand how everything fits together to explain their experience.

What’s Unique About Mahrer Psychology Assessments?

I provide child-friendly testing. I include breaks, stickers, and prizes to build rapport and help the child feel comfortable and motivated.

I use a hybrid approach for my assessments. Intake and feedback sessions are virtual, and testing is in-person. I can travel to you or provide an office space.

When I test children, I provide feedback for parents and I create fables to also give feedback to kids.
